Congregational Life and Service
Faith, Care & Share involves all members in service with congregational life. Each member or family in the congregation is assigned to a a group for one month of the year, and the group is responsible for a variety of functions that month. A brunch is held after worship the third Sunday of the month prior to the month of service. At the brunch, individuals sign up to assist in one or more of the following ways: ushering, greeting, Sunday scripture reading, assisting with Communion, serving refreshments after service, nursery, delivering Meals on Wheels to shut-ins, or serving brunch for the following month’s planning. In addition, the Faith, Care & Share group is responsible to serve the first two funerals in their month as requested.
Members can also join the Altar Guild which assists with preparation of the sanctuary throughout the year.
The Care Team Ministry is is made up of volunteers who give an hour a month to visit a shut-in member of the congregation to offer companionship and assistance. Opportunities to care include: friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, minor home repair, light housekeeping and yard work, letter writing, reading running errands, and personal grooming.
All men of the congregation are members of the Men's Club, which hosts a dinner for the community.
Our music ministries practice on Wednesday evenings and include the Handbell Choir (rehearsing 6 p.m.), and the vocal Sanctuary Choir (rehearsing 7 p.m.). The Sanctuary Choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. worship sevice September–May, and the Handbell Choir performs the second Sunday of the month September–May.
All confirmed women are automatically members of Breckenridge Lutheran Women (BLW). Guild meetings are held on the fourth Thursdays of February, May, September, and December.
BLW women's circles (small groups) meet monthly for Bible study, fellowship, and service opportunities. A variety of meeting times and locations are available.
Women of the church also get together to make quilts and prayer shawls.
About 100 quilts are sewn and given to missions and local needs each year. Quilters rip clothing and prepare fabric, cut pieces, sew quilt tops, tie and sew around the quilts. A noon meal is served by one of the circles, adding to the fellowship. Sewing day is the third Wednesday of January – May and September – November.
The prayer shawl group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
"Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles..." — Janet Severi Bristow
